Front Cover final

Summary of Front Cover
The process that the cover has had has not changed to a large degree. The image has remained the same throughout however, originally the image overlapped onto the masthead which made it appear as though parts of the masthead were missing. The reasoning behind why “Upcoming” decided to rethink and remove their original masthead idea was because it was not practical and was unclear to read. Generally magazines that use this technique are established magazines that sell to a mainstream market. “UPCOMING” magazine is different from these types of magazines as it is not looking to attract a wide mainstream audience as the content of the magazine could be considered to be attracting a niche market. “Upcoming” see the cover as being a crucial part of attracting the target consumers because ultimately it is one of the deciding factors that determine whether or not consumers will buy the magazine.
The cover features only two colours, red and white on a black background. These colours are known to work well together and both have connotations of rock, something that “Upcoming” are trying to give off through their connotations. These colours are highly contrasting on the black background and will stand out in a magazine store especially due to the red font which is very bold and bright and stands out.
The cover also includes features which follow typical media conventions. These include masthead, kicks, explanatory text, barcodes, date and the price of the magazine. This will make the magazine have a more professional feel to it and it will be recognized as a magazine due to the fact that it holds these features.
